Jewellery thefts: Montreal police looking for possible victims

Montreal police (SPVM) are asking the public for help in a case involving two alleged jewellery thiefs – in connection to numerous break-ins across the greater Montreal area.

The SPVM says that on Oct. 1, Madalina Paun, 30, and Costel Miclescu, 36, were taken into custody in the Côte-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough as they were reportedly getting ready to target more potential victims.

It is believed the duo mainly targetted the elderly while committing the alleged robberies.

Police say they Miclescu would drive them in a rental vehicle and Paun would approach someone on the street – or sitting on a balcony – and ask for directions – and then somehow get themselves invited into the home.

Once inside, the home would be searched for jewellery, which police say would be stolen and replaced by fake jewellery.

Police note that during the alleged crimes, Paun and Miclescu would often be accompanied by young children.

Both were in court on Oct. 3, where they faced charges of theft, breaking and entering, conspiracy, and more. They remain detained.

Madalina Paun is 1.56 m tall and weighs 169 pounds. She has brown eyes and brown hair.

Costel Miclescu is 1.75 m tall and weighs 220 pounds. He has black eyes and black hair.

SPVM believe there could be additional victims of Madalina Paun and Costel Miclescu out there.

If anyone has any information, they are asked to visit their local police station, call 911, or contact Info-Crime Montréal anonymously and confidentially at 514-393-1133 – or through their online reporting form.
