Several daycares and early childhood centres affiliated with the FIPEQ union began their strike actions on Friday.
The CSQ-affiliated Fédération des intervenantes en petite enfance (FIPEQ) represents 3,000 childcare workers in Quebec.
On Friday morning, CPE daycare workers opened services at 7:30 a.m., later than usual – which will continue for the following upcoming Fridays.
Next week, the daycares will open its doors at 8:30 a.m., the following week at 10 a.m. and at 12 p.m. the week after that.
FIPEQ also represents 9,000 self-employed childcare workers (RSE) who work in home daycare services, where the strike began last Monday. Here too, the strike takes the form of opening their services later.
A “welcome committee” from the CSQ and the FIPEQ went to the Montreal offices of the Ministry of the Family to lobby on behalf of the Responsables de services éducatifs en milieu familial.
