The homeless encampment on Notre-Dame Street East in Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve will be dismantled on Thursday.
Transport Quebec posted an eviction notice to all those living in the encampment, stating the area will be thoroughly cleaned.
It’s reported that over 100 people live in several tents around Viau Boulevard and Frontenac Street.

Police officers will be on hand to supervise the operation, according to a spokesperson from the Quebec Transport Ministry (MTMD).
“The MTMD must comply with the notice of non-compliance in order not to be in default with the regulations in place,” the spokesperson wrote in an email.
“Acting as soon as possible is also essential in favor of the safety of the premises for both citizens in the area and users of the land concerned.”

The MTMD is asking the unhoused population who live in the encampment to gather their personal belongings and clear the site before Thursday. All abandoned property will be thrown away during the operation.
They also write that if anyone needs help and resources, to contact 211.
The MTMD specifies the notice of non-compliance concerns three sites — the perimeter of Morgan Park; a structure on the east corner of Bourdonnière; and a camp between Joliette and Aylwin — and not “the corridor as a whole.”
