Teenager dies after multi-vehicle collision in Quebec’s Mauricie region

A teenager died Saturday from injuries sustained in a series of collisions that occurred Friday morning in Saint-Paulin, in Mauricie. Four other people were injured, including a man who remains in critical condition.
Emergency services were called to Rang des Douze-Terres around 7:15 a.m. According to initial reports, a first vehicle reportedly veered out of its lane to make a left turn before being struck by a second vehicle traveling in the opposite direction, which had a 17-year-old female passenger on board who was reportedly very seriously injured. The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) unfortunately confirmed her death on Saturday.
The driver of the first vehicle also reportedly suffered life-threatening injuries, according to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
SQ spokesperson Laurie Avoine added that a second collision then occurred when a third car, unable to avoid the crash, struck the second vehicle. The person in the third vehicle reportedly sustained minor injuries.
The five injured people were transported to a hospital.
“An investigator and officers trained in collision response went to the scene to shed light on the circumstances surrounding this incident,” added Avoine, noting that all lanes have since been reopened.
