Police in Quebec say five suspects were arrested across Canada Wednesday in connection with three murders in Charlemagne and Montreal in 2023 and 2024.
The five suspects, men ranging in age from 26 to 35, were arrested in Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia. Two were already in police custody in Montreal.
Authorities with the SPVM and the SQ say searches were also conducted in Montreal, Sherbrooke, Cambridge, Ont., and Kamloops, B.C.
Police say the first murder dates back to June 16, 2023, when a 32-year-old man was fatally shot while getting into his vehicle in Charlemagne, in the Laurentians. Investigators believe he was a victim of mistaken identity.
The second murder was on Aug. 7, 2023, in downtown Montreal. A 28-year-old man was found unconscious on the sidewalk on Sainte-Catherine Street near Guy Street. Investigators believe the man was shot multiple times as he was leaving a bar.
Police say the third murder happened on May 14, 2024, after a man was found unconscious with injuries on Parc Avenue in Ahuntsic–Cartierville. The suspects reportedly fled in a vehicle before police arrived.
In June, the SPVM arrested two suspects in relation to the case. Another suspect in that investigation, Dylan Denis, remains wanted and was recently featured on the Bolo Program’s list of most-wanted fugitives in Canada.
“These new arrests are in addition to about 10 others made over the summer, as part of this joint investigation by the SPVM and the SQ,” police said in a news release. “The majority of those arrested are believed to be linked to criminal street gangs in Montreal and Laval.”
The joint investigation by the SPVM and the SQ is ongoing.
