Driver arrested after collision with train in Longueuil

Two people in their twenties were injured overnight when their vehicle hit a freight train in Longueuil. The driver of the vehicle was arrested.

The incident occurred around 3 a.m. Monday near the intersection of Guimond Blvd. and de la Métropole Street.

According to initial information, the driver of the vehicle hit a Canadian National freight train. Following the impact, he fled the scene, while his passenger remained in the vehicle.

“The driver of the vehicle returned to the scene and was arrested for impaired driving and fleeing,” said Mélanie Mercille, spokesperson for the Longueuil Police (SPAL).

The driver and his passenger reportedly suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Due to this event, de la Métropole Sreet had to be closed between Blvd. Guimond and Jean-Neveu Street. SPAL asks the population to avoid the area Monday morning.
