Car torched in downtown Montreal

By The Canadian Press

Montreal police (SPVM) are investigating after a vehicle was set on fire overnight Friday in the borough of Ville-Marie.

Emergency services received a call to 911 at around 2:30 a.m. about a car on fire in a parking lot on Lespérance Street, near Ontario Street.

The fire was quickly brought under control, and there were no reported injuries.

However, the vehicle is a total loss.

“According to initial information obtained by officers on site, a suspect was seen near the vehicle when the fire broke out, but he fled before the police arrived,” said SPVM spokesperson Véronique Dubuc.

The vehicle will be examined on Friday morning, and investigators from the Montreal police arson squad will collect other evidence to determine the causes and circumstances of this event.
