MNA for Saint-Henri-Sainte-Anne, Guillaume Cliche-Rivard, has become the interim spokesperson for Québec solidaire (QS), following the resignation of Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois.
In a statement released Sunday, Cliche-Rivard said he was “honoured to receive this show of confidence” from his party.
“In the current context, the voice of Québec solidaire is more important than ever and I will spare no effort to defend our vision of Quebec,” said the MNA, who first entered the Salon bleu in the National Assembly in 2023.
Current QS spokesperson and newly appointed parliamentary leader Ruba Ghazal welcomed this announcement.
“Faced with the right-wing winds and repeated attacks on our social model, I have complete confidence in Guillaume to carry the voice of those who are never listened to,” she said.
Cliche-Rivard will fill the position left vacant by Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois on an interim basis until a new spokesperson is elected.
The terms of this next race have not yet been determined, but the party specified that Cliche-Rivard “will not have the opportunity to present himself as a candidate” in this next race.
Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois announced his retirement from politics last Thursday for family reasons, admitting he was “worn out.” The Gouin MNA intends to complete his term but will not seek re-election in the next election.
