Open House for Montreal courthouse and Quebec Court of Appeal

The Bar of Montreal is inviting the public to a unique behind-the-scenes experience at the Montreal Courthouse and the Quebec Court of Appeal on Saturday.

As part of the Rendez-vous VISEZ DROIT initiative, the event provides an opportunity for attendees to explore the justice system and access free legal advice from volunteer lawyers.

From 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., the public can benefit from consultations in both English and French, covering a wide range of legal topics, including family law, housing law, immigration, and more.

Guided tours of the courthouse, which are scheduled throughout the day, will allow visitors to explore courtrooms, registries, and areas usually off-limits, such as detention spaces.

A highlight of the event will be a fun and engaging mock trial, Big Bad Wolf Moot Trial, which invites the public to play the role of jurors in a courtroom drama. The trial, presented in collaboration with the Festival Interculturel du Conte de Montréal (FICM), will determine whether the Big Bad Wolf deserves a sentence in children’s tales. The first performance runs from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m., with a second showing from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m.

At the Quebec Court of Appeal, activities will include guided tours of the Ernest-Cormier Building, as well as a special meeting with the Chief Justice of Quebec, Honourable Manon Savard.

The public will also have the chance to speak with legal professionals, community organizations, and law enforcement, including members of the SPVM’s Tactical Intervention Group and Canine Squad.

Actor Sébastien Delorme, star of the popular Quebec series Indefensible, will serve as the event’s ambassador.
