Federal election: CityNews-Leger poll finds U.S. relations are especially important to Quebecers

With the federal election campaign period underway, a new poll by CityNews-Leger highlights what issues matter to Quebecers ahead of the April 28 vote.

The poll found relations with the United States are especially important in La Belle Province, with 32 per cent of respondents calling that the most important issue in Canada right now. That includes topics like tariffs and dealing with President Donald Trump.

The second most important issue for Quebecers was the economy (11 per cent).

The poll suggests 26 per cent of Quebecers want to remove the carbon tax and end carbon pricing entirely. About 20 per cent of Quebecers want to keep the current carbon tax and rebate system in place.

The poll asked participants which federal leader they would most like to watch a hockey game with. Yves-Francois Blanchet was the top choice for Quebecers.

Overall, the poll found the Liberals are the choice across Quebec, with Mark Carney’s party holding a 16-point advantage over the Bloc Québécois.

The poll was conducted between March 10-13, among 1,504 respondents as part of an online survey. The results have been weighted according to age, gender, region and education to ensure a representative sample of the Canadian population. A probability sample of this size would yield a margin of error of +/- 2.49 per cent.
