Montreal braces for freezing rain as storm hits southern Quebec

A freezing rain warning has been issued for Montreal as a storm is set to move through southern Quebec on Sunday.

Environment Canada is forecasting possible ice accumulation of five to 10 millimetres over several hours, starting in the morning.

The mix of snow and ice pellets will change to freezing rain by late morning, with temperatures expected to reach 1°C by the afternoon.

As the day progresses, the freezing rain will give way to rain by the afternoon, continuing into the evening with a low of 2°C.

Conditions are expected to improve slightly on Monday, as temperatures rise to 14°C with more rain in the forecast.

Looking ahead to the rest of the week, Tuesday is expected to be sunny with a high of 3°C, but temperatures will drop significantly at night, reaching a low of -10°C.

By Wednesday, cloud cover will increase with a high of 1°C and a low of -1°C overnight.

Rain is expected to return Thursday, with a high of 13°C and a low of 4°C.

Friday will bring a mix of sun and cloud, with temperatures reaching 10°C during the day, and another cool night with a low of -1°C.

The weekend looks promising, with sunny skies and highs around 10°C on Saturday.

Residents are urged to be cautious on the roads, especially on Sunday, as icy conditions are expected to cause travel disruptions.
