Hilm and the Canadian Youth Development Centre follow the Quebec Council of Imams, who observe global moon sighting, as opposed to a smaller percentage that observe local moon sighting.

This means the holiday begins once the new moon is sighted with the naked eye.

Eid is a day of feasting after a month of fasting during Ramadan, with no eating or drinking from sunrise to sunset.

It is spent celebrating with loved ones, visiting relatives, and giving gifts to young children.
