A 54-year-old man has died in hospital after being assaulted last Sunday night in Montreal’s Plateau-Mont-Royal borough, marking the city’s 10th homicide of the year.
Montreal police (SPVM) received several 911 calls around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, reporting an unconscious man near the entrance of a parking lot on Parc Avenue, close to Milton Street.
“When officers arrived, paramedics were already tending to the victim,” said SPVM spokesperson Caroline Chèvrefils.
The man was taken to hospital in critical condition and remained there throughout the week. He died of his injuries on Saturday.

Following a search in the area, a 34-year-old suspect was arrested near the scene at around 3:40 a.m. on Sunday. He was taken to an investigation centre, arrested, and charged.
“Preliminary information indicates the suspect assaulted the victim using physical force,” said Chèvrefils.
The exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain unknown. An investigation is ongoing.
