Sol Zanetti considering running to become co-spokesperson for Québec solidaire

By The Canadian Press

Sol Zanetti, Quebec Solidaire MNA for the riding of Jean-Lesage in the Quebec City region, is considering running to become the next co-spokesperson for Québec solidaire (QS).

He made the announcement on his Facebook page on Saturday morning after having raised this possibility in an open letter and an interview with the daily newspaper Le Soleil.

Zanetti emphasizes that he is seriously considering replacing Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois, who resigned as the QS’s spokesperson and parliamentary leader on March 20. Nadeau-Dubois said he was “worn out” by politics and would not run again in the next Quebec election.

Unusually, Zanetti has created an online survey that can be answered on his Facebook page in order to take the population’s pulse.

“Whether you are a member of the party or not, I invite you to fill out my form to tell me what you think and feel about the future of the world. This is why I am launching an online consultation on the future of QS, a solidarity compass,” wrote Zanetti.

The survey asks respondents whether they think that “the parliamentary wing of QS should leave the National Assembly more often to support citizens’ struggles” and whether they would like to know more about the person who will be elected spokesperson for Québec solidaire on Nov. 9.

Zanetti says he wants to take the time to consult with supporters before announcing his decision.
