PLQ leadership race: Marwah Rizqy and Greg Kelley endorse Pablo Rodriguez

By The Canadian Press

Quebec Liberal MNAs Marwah Rizqy and Greg Kelley rallied behind Quebec Liberal Party (PLQ) leadership candidate, Pablo Rodriguez, who now has the support of 10 elected officials.

At a press conference in Montreal Monday, Rizqy praised the seriousness of Rodriguez, a former federal minister in the Trudeau government, and his “flamboyant” personality, which “inspires people.”

She also thanked Rodriguez for bringing former Liberal MP turned independent Marie-Claude Nichols “back into the fold.”

Nichols, who was expelled from the Liberal caucus following a dispute with leader Dominique Anglade, announced last Friday that she was returning to the party and supporting Rodriguez.

“Pablo, for me, is the man for the job,” Rizqy added.

The PLQ will elect its new leader on June 14 at the end of a convention in Quebec City. Between now and then, four other debates are scheduled in Gatineau, Quebec City, Trois-Rivières, and Rivière-du-Loup.

Former CEO of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce Charles Milliard, former president of the Conseil du patronat and former MNA Karl Blackburn, lawyer Marc Bélanger, and farmer Mario Roy are also in the running.
