Fabio Puglisi, the man who committed a double murder in Vaudreuil-Dorion last year, still poses a risk to society, according to a judge, who declared him not criminally responsible Monday.

Puglisi violently stabbed his mother and a neighbour to death in Vaudreuil-Dorion on Feb. 15, 2024.

At the Salaberry-de-Valleyfield courthouse Monday, the judge said Puglisi is mentally unstable, which has made him unpredictable and capable of violence.

The 45-year-old therefore won’t be held criminally responsible for the murders of his mother, Elisabetta Puglisi-Caucci, and a neighbour, Manon Blanchard. Another person was seriously injured and survived the attack.

Puglisi has been detained at Pinel Institute for the last two years, but the judge said he is still not stabilized and is a risk to public safety. He’ll be assessed as a high-risk accused, which means he may be detained for much longer.

Puglisi is due back in court in June.
