By The Canadian Press

A cyclist is in critical condition after being hit by a vehicle while lying unconscious on the ground in Sainte-Marie-Madeleine, Montérégie, on Friday night.

Emergency services received a call around 2:30 a.m. regarding a seriously injured man on Route 116 westbound between Sainte-Marie-Madeleine and Saint-Hyacinthe. Upon arrival, emergency services found the man lying near his bicycle.

“He was riding his bike and apparently fell for a reason that remains to be determined, which is why he was found lying next to his bike,” Sûreté du Québec spokesperson Jean-Raphaël Drolet told La Presse Canadienne.

Route 116 was closed and then reopened around 6:15 a.m. Saturday morning.
