By News Staff

A suspect was arrested in connection with a stabbing in Montreal’s downtown area early Monday morning.

Montreal police (SPVM) responded to a 911 call at around 3:15 a.m. about an armed assault in an alleyway located between Saint-Laurent Blvd. and Clark Street in the Ville-Marie borough.

“When police arrived on the scene, they located the victim, a man of 49 years old,” said Caroline Chèvrefils, a spokesperson with the SPVM. “He was conscious and he had been injured to the upper body with a sharp object.”

Adding that the man was then transported to hospital, and that they do not fear for his life.

The SPVM arrested a 41-year-old man in connection with the incident.

“He was then transported to the investigation centre,” explained Chèvrefils. “He will be met by the investigators in the coming hours.”

“According to the first information, it’s a conflict that would have escalated between the victim and the suspect, who know each other,” she added.

A security perimeter has been set up at the scene, an investigation is ongoing.
