A 26-year-old man from Montreal received a $3,330 ticket and over 40 demerit points after he was caught traveling at 250 km/h on Highway 15.

Around 5:00 a.m. on Aug. 31, officers from the Montreal highway control station stopped the vehicle traveling 180 km/h over the posted speed limit on the Decarie Expressway, near Edouard-Montpetit Blvd.

“The driver was caught in a zone where the speed limit is set at 70 km/h,” the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) said in a press release.

His driver’s license was suspended for seven days, the SQ explained. Adding that he got 42 demerit points.

“The Sûreté du Québec reminds us that speeding is one of the leading causes of fatal collisions on Quebec roads,” they said.
