By The Canadian Press

Three candidates will ultimately seek to succeed Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois as co-spokesperson for Québec solidaire. A debate will be held on Oct. 9 in Sherbrooke.

The party confirmed Wednesday that MNAs Etienne Grandmont and Sol Zanetti, as well as former Regional Director of Public Health for Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine Dr. Yv Bonnier Viger, have submitted complete nomination papers.

Activist Geru Schneider, who was also campaigning, announced Monday that he had been unable to meet all of the party’s requirements to advance to the next stage of the race.

Candidates had until Sunday to submit their nomination papers containing 500 valid signatures, as well as a $10,000 deposit to pay for goods and services provided by the party.

The three candidates still in the race will face off in a debate on the evening of Oct. 9 at the Théâtre Léonard Saint-Laurent in Sherbrooke.

Details regarding the debate format, the topics covered, or the identity of the moderator have not yet been revealed. However, it is known that it will be broadcast on Facebook.

Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois’s successor as co-spokesperson will be announced on Nov. 8 at a party convention.
