Montreal police are investigating a second suspected arson at the same residence in less than two months in the city’s Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough.
SPVM spokesperson Véronique Dubuc said the latest incident happened around 1:40 a.m. Saturday, when officers responded to a 911 call reporting a vehicle on fire in the private parking lot of a residence on Languedoc Ave.
When officers arrived, they spoke with witnesses who said they saw a suspect throw an object toward the parked vehicle, which then caught fire. The suspect fled the scene before police arrived.
A witness told CityNews they heard a loud crash that sounded like glass breaking, then saw flames coming from the back of the neighbour’s car. The witness said someone dressed in black was seen running toward Rosemont Blvd., and that they alerted the residents and called police.
Firefighters brought the fire under control, and the vehicle was towed for analysis by the SPVM’s arson unit. No injuries were reported, and no arrests have been made.
On Aug. 17, a fire also broke out at the same address, damaging the front doors of two homes.
