A road accident leaves two dead, including a child, on Highway 30 in Montérégie

A man and a child are dead after a collision involving a heavy goods vehicle and a vehicle that occurred Friday in Beauharnois, Montérégie.

The accident occurred in the afternoon, around 3 p.m., at kilometer 28 on Highway 30, confirmed the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

According to initial information gathered by the SQ, the heavy goods vehicle collided with the rear of the car, where a driver and three passengers, including a six-year-old child, were sitting.

“The death of a passenger, a man in his 30s, was confirmed at the scene,” said Ève Brochu-Joubert, spokesperson for the SQ.

The three other occupants of the vehicle were taken to hospital, where the child was sadly pronounced dead, added Brochu-Joubert.

The two occupants of the truck, including a driver in his 30s, suffered injuries, but their lives are not in danger.

The SQ confirmed that an investigation was underway and that no one had yet been arrested in connection with the accident.
