A 21-year-old man died from his injuries on Saturday afternoon after being shot early Friday morning in Montreal.

The man was one of two people shot on Friday morning, the other victim being a 17-year-old teenager.

Police initially believed that the two incidents were unrelated, but it was later confirmed that they were linked, said Jeanne Drouin, spokesperson for the Montreal Police Service (SPVM).

The teenager is out of danger. The SPVM’s major crimes section is investigating the case, which is being treated as a home invasion.

On Friday, a call was made to 911 at around 1 a.m. regarding a person who had been shot in an apartment on Théodore Street, near Ontario Street, in the Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough.

Upon arriving at the scene, police located an unconscious man with a gunshot wound to the upper body.

The victim’s identity was initially unknown, but the person was later identified as the 21-year-old man. He succumbed to his injuries on Saturday afternoon in a hospital, Drouin reported.

The two occupants of the apartment, a 39-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man, were also at the scene. The woman had a minor injury to her hand.

“According to initial reports, suspects arrived at the residence and an altercation ensued between the two occupants of the residence and the suspects,” said Caroline Chèvrefils, spokesperson for the SPVM, on Friday. Following the shots fired, the other suspects fled before the police arrived. A firearm and shell casings were found at the scene.”

The 17-year-old was located by Urgences-santé paramedics at around 1:15 a.m. on Friday, near a Montreal hospital.
