Attempted arson at Plateau club under investigation

Montreal police (SPVM) are investigating an attempted arson in the Plateau–Mont-Royal borough overnight.

Officers were called to Le club École privée on Saint-Laurent Blvd., corner Milton Street, around 2:15 a.m. early Monday after 911 callers reported a fire in a commercial building. When police arrived, firefighters were already working to bring the situation under control.

Preliminary information suggests one or more suspects threw an incendiary substance at a window before fleeing, the SPVM said.

The building sustained only minor damage – specifically a broken window – and no incendiary objects were recovered at the scene, according to police spokesperson Caroline Chèvrefils.

The file has been turned over to the SPVM’s arson unit. Investigators were expected to visit the site to analyze the scene and review any available surveillance footage.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
