Laval police (SPL) said Wednesday that they arrested two suspects involved in several break-ins targeting pharmacies, eyewear shops and Sephora store across the Greater Montreal region.
Investigators believe that the same suspects were behind various incidents reported in Montreal, Longueuil, Vaudreuil-Dorion, Saint-Jérôme, Terrebonne, and Saint-Eustache, since September.
“The thefts represent nearly $500,000 in losses, plus approximately $75,000 in property damage,” SPL said in a press release.
Police said they also seized clothing, a large quantity of stolen perfume bottles and glasses, as well as burglary tools. Two cars were also seized as proceeds of crime.
The joint operation was conducted by investigators from SPL in collaboration with Terrebonne and Saint-Eustache police departments targeting the suspects’ residences and vehicles.
SPL said they arrested Yesander Sarria Cespedes, 41, who remained in custody following his arrest. A second suspect, aged 60, who was arrested has since been released with conditions.
The suspects face several charges of breaking and entering, possession of burglary tools, possession of criminally obtained property, and mischief to property, according to SPL.
An arrest warrant has been issued for a third 34-year-old suspect, who was not found during the search.
