Route 136 east to close for weekend maintenance work in Montreal

Drivers heading into downtown Montreal will face major traffic disruptions this weekend as the eastbound lanes of Route 136 will be closed for repair and maintenance work.
Quebec’s Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility says the closure is needed to carry out slab repairs, paving and road marking work in the Ville-Marie and Viger tunnels.
The complete closure of Route 136 eastbound will be in effect between Exit 4, serving the Victoria Bridge, Robert-Bourassa Boulevard and de la Montagne Street and the entrance ramp from Atateken Street from Friday at 11 p.m. until Monday at 5 a.m.
Ramps from Robert-Bourassa Boulevard and Cathedral Street will also be closed during the work.
The ministry warns significant congestion is expected throughout the weekend and is encouraging people travelling downtown to use public transit whenever possible.
Additional overnight traffic disruptions are also planned at the Turcot Interchange, though details have not yet been released.
Officials say the work could be postponed or extended due to weather conditions or operational constraints.
Drivers are encouraged to check Québec 511 before travelling.
