A Montreal mother who left her three-year-old daughter on the side of an Ontario highway in June will remain in psychiatric care for at least another six months, a Quebec administrative judge ruled Wednesday.
The girl was found alive after a three-day search.
The woman, 34, had been diagnosed with mixed mania with psychotic symptoms and was found not criminally responsible for her actions.
The judge ordered her transfer from the Philippe-Pinel psychiatric institute to the Douglas Institute, citing her progress and the need for continued treatment.
Her psychiatrist said she is stable, taking medication, no longer using cannabis, and does not currently pose a risk to her child.
She could eventually move into a supervised living environment or live with a relative, but she has not yet had contact with her daughter.
The case will be reviewed again in six months.
