Holiday hours affect city services across Montreal

Several municipal services in Montreal will operate on reduced schedules or close temporarily during the holiday season, while many others will remain available to residents.

Accès Montréal offices and permit counters will be closed from Dec. 24 to Jan. 2. Online services will remain available, allowing residents to complete procedures virtually. Applications submitted during the holiday period will be accepted but will be processed starting Jan. 5, 2026.

Household garbage, recycling, food waste and bulky-item collections will continue citywide, though some boroughs will see adjusted pickup dates. Residents are encouraged to check their local schedules through the Info-collectes service. Christmas tree collection will take place separately. Trees must be free of decorations and placed at the curb before 7 a.m. on collection day, without blocking sidewalks.

Ecocentres will be closed from Dec. 24 to Jan. 1 and will reopen Jan. 2 under the regular winter schedule, operating Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Most sports facilities will remain open, though schedules may vary by borough. Libraries and cultural centres will also operate on modified schedules, and residents are advised to verify hours in advance.

The skating rink at Esplanade Tranquille in the Quartier des spectacles will remain open daily throughout the holidays, including Dec. 24, 25, 31 and Jan. 1, weather permitting.

The MEM – Montreal Memory Centre will be open throughout the holiday season, except on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. Reduced hours will apply on Dec. 24 and 31. Space for Life museums will be closed Dec. 24 and 25, and will open at 1 p.m. on Jan. 1.

Municipal court services will be limited during the holiday period. Only inmate appearances will be maintained at the courthouse on Gosford Street. The court’s call centre and headquarters will be closed from Dec. 24 to Jan. 4, with service counters at several locations also closed on select dates.

The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) announced Monday that the metro services will be extended on the night of Dec. 31, 2025, to Jan. 1, 2026.

Residents are encouraged to consult the city’s website for full details on holiday schedules and service availability.
