Montreal police (SPVM) are looking for suspects in connection with an arson attempt of a restaurant in Villeray early Christmas morning.
Police say they responded to a 911 call around 3:45 a.m. Thursday regarding a fire in a commercial and residential building, where Trattoria Trozzo is located, on Saint-Dominique Street, near Liege Street.
When the police arrived, they quickly evacuated the residents of the apartment above, and shortly after the Montreal fire department arrived at the scene and to extinguish the fire, according to Jeanne Drouin, SPVM spokesperson.
Drouin added that, according to initial information, “one or more suspect, would have broken a window to set the fire in the restaurant and then fled the scene before the police arrival.”
The damage to the building was minor. The police officers evacuated about 10 residents who were then able to return to their apartment. No one was injured.
Some incendiary material was found at the scene.
Investigation is ongoing.
