Police identify man, woman found dead in Brossard home

By The Canadian Press

A 56-year-old man and a 54-year-old woman were found dead in Brossard, on Montreal’s South Shore, overnight. Police have opened a homicide investigation.

At approximately 12:45 a.m. on Monday, SPAL were called to Bienvenue Ave. for an armed assault.

Longueuil Police (SPAL) revealed the identities of the two victims, Marcos Amilcar Diaz Lopez and Sonia-Maricela Gonzalez-Velasquez, on Monday evening in order to advance the investigation.

Officials say the investigation is primarily focused on a murder-suicide theory.

Upon arriving at the scene, police found two bodies with marks of violence.

Another spokesperson, Mélanie Mercier, confirmed late Monday that “the SPAL has already intervened at this address.”

“The 911 call that was made, was made by a member of the family,” said Constable Jacqueline Pierre, spokesperson for the SPAL. “So actually that’s the first witness we have that we’re meeting.”

“The examination of the scene and the expert analyses are now complete,” said Mercier.

“One thing for sure that we know is that the victim that we found were residents here,” said Pierre. “They were living here at the same address. That’s the only information we have so far. The cameras are going to help, the witnesses are going to help, and time only will help us out to find out if it was like something randomly done or not.”

“The deaths of a 56-year-old man and a 54-year-old woman were confirmed at the scene. A scene was immediately set up, as well as a command post,” said Pierre.

Officials say it’s too soon to confirm whether the pair lived in the home, but investigators are looking at the possibility of a murder-suicide.

“It’s only after the investigation in the coming days that’s going to really reveal to us what happened,” said Jacqueline Pierre, spokesperson for  Longueueil Police (SPAL).

Few details were immediately available regarding the sequence of events. The SPAL’s Major Crimes Division will lead the investigation.

Investigators and forensic identification technicians will on the scene Monday.
