Longueuil police confirm Brossard murder was femicide

The Longueuil Agglomeration Police Service (SPAL) has confirmed the discovery of two bodies Monday in a Brossard home was the result of a femicide followed by a suicide.

The SPAL provided an update Tuesday, stating this conclusion is the result of its investigation.

According to police, 54-year-old Sonia Maricela Gonzalez Vasquez was killed before 56-year-old Marcos Amilcar Diaz Lopez took his own life.

The SPAL confirmed they had previously visited the address.

Police were called to the house around 12:45 a.m. Monday, where officers found two bodies, both showing signs of violence.

This murder is the sixth case of domestic violence reported in Quebec since the beginning of 2026.
