Seven families evacuated after fire in Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve

Seven families had to be evacuated on Thursday morning when a fire broke out in a two-storey residential and commercial building in Montreal. One firefighter sustained minor injuries during the operation.
More than 150 firefighters were mobilized on the ground to fight the flames at the intersection of Notre-Dame Street East and Paul-Pau Street, in the Tétreaultville district.
The cause of the fire was unknown Thursday morning.
A fifth alarm was triggered, prompting firefighters to ask the public to avoid the area early in the day.
This event occurred in the riding of Parti Québécois leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon. On social media, the MNA for Camille-Laurin expressed his “heartfelt condolences to the evacuated families.”
“The families have been taken care of by the Red Cross, and the Montreal Municipal Housing Office will be able to intervene if necessary,” noted St-Pierre Plamondon, adding that his team is in contact with the Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough.
St-Pierre Plamondon also wished the injured firefighter a speedy recovery.
