49-year-old man dead after fatal collision in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve

A 49-yar-old man was killed in a fatal collision in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve Wednesday and Montreal police (SPVM) say that he had just stolen the vehicle he was driving, when he crashed going at a high speed.

SPVM received a 911 call around 6 a.m. about the collision at the intersection of Bossuet and Hochelaga streets.

“Police rushed to the scene and saw that the man inside the car was unfortunately declared dead on the scene,” said Manuel Couture, spokesperson for the SPVM.

According to initial information authorities gathered, the vehicle was travelling at high speed on Bossuet and when crossing Hochelaga, the vehicle collided with another vehicle travelling on Hochelaga. The vehicle then came to a stop, after colliding into a residential building.

“Police established a vast perimeter here to know exactly what happened. We have the investigators from Enquête Collision who will gather information. They will check if there is some camera footage,” Couture added in an interview with CityNews on Wednesday morning.

The driver of the other vehicle did not suffer serious injuries.
