Réseau express métropolitain (REM) service at Édouard-Montpetit station resumed at approximately 7:22 a.m. Monday after a technical problem affecting two elevators forced a temporary closure during the morning commute.
According to transit officials, the issue was discovered when the station opened. A service provider was immediately contacted to carry out repairs. For safety reasons, the station was closed while the elevators were out of service.
The station, which is located roughly 22 floors below ground, relies on high-capacity elevators for passenger access and emergency evacuation. Without them, many users with reduced mobility would be unable to access the station, leaving stairs as the only alternative.
Officials apologized for the inconvenience and said service was restored once it was safe to reopen the station.
