RCMP arrests 2 people after raid in Montreal North in human-trafficking case

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) made two arrests on Thursday morning during an operation in Montreal as part of an investigation into an alleged human-trafficking ring.
The federal police force stated that its officers arrested an alleged human trafficker and a migrant when they arrived at a residence in the Montréal-Nord borough.
In a press release, the RCMP stated that, according to the investigation, the searched residence “was being used as a temporary shelter for migrants who had just crossed the border illegally or to hide migrants while waiting to smuggle them illegally into the United States.”
“The investigation is ongoing,” the RCMP said.
The operation was led by the Champlain Integrated Border Enforcement Team (IBET).
IBETs include members of the RCMP, the Canada Border Services Agency, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and other U.S. agencies.
