Montreal $5M lottery winner plans to buy house ‘for me and my cat’

When Montreal’s Pierre Draws checked his lottery ticket, he thought he won $5,000.

Then he realized there were many, many more zeros.

It turns out Draws, who is in his 60s, won $5 million in the July 4 Lotto 6/49 draw.

“I think it’s the best day of my life. Extraordinary,” he told Loto-Québec.

“I still don’t believe it.”

What does Draws, who has been living in apartment since he was 15 years old, plan to do with the money?

“I think I deserve a house, a more beautiful life for me and my cat,” he said.

Draws, who retired last year, said he was on “cloud nine” when he picked up his winnings.

The Anjou convenience store where he purchased the ticket will receive $50,000.

The $5 million win by Draws was the first of two big jackpots won in Quebec this month. During the July 10 draw, 10 people in Laval split a $25 million prize.
