Weekend closures to disrupt Mercier Bridge traffic

Officials say repair and maintenance work will require the closure of ramps to and from the Mercier Bridge this weekend, Friday, at 11pm to Monday, at 5am.

This work and ramp closures are in addition to the current traffic configuration on the Mercier Bridge (one lane in each direction), due to the work on the Quebec portion of the span.

R-138 East (direction from Chateauguay towards Montreal) will be the only access ramp available towards the Montreal-bound Mercier Bridge.

The R-132 West access ramp (from La Prairie/St. Constant towards Montreal) will be closed. Motorists will have to detour via A-730, A-30 to R-138 in Chateauguay to get to Montreal or take the Champlain Bridge.

Related closures & Traffic mitigation measures:

  • R-207 North (Direction St. Remi towards Kahnawà:ke/Mercier Bridge) CLOSED
  • R-132 West CLOSED at the boundary
  • A-730 North towards R-132 West CLOSED
  • Access ramps from R-138 East & West towards R-207 CLOSED
  • Old Chateauguay Road (OCR) CLOSED

The Kahnawà:ke Mohawk Peacekeepers and Public Works road crew will be redirecting all non-kahnawa’kehró:non  to the proper detour route (R-138 East). Those who have business (deliveries, employment, etc.) within the community must provide proof to enter.

Only Kahnawa’kehró:non will have access to the community via the R-132 West (near Kahnawà:ke Survival School/ boundary), R-207 North (at A-30), and OCR closure points. These closures are in place to minimize impacts to community members.

Public Transportation: A priority bus lane will be in operation for buses coming from Montreal towards Chateauguay.

Officials reminds the public that these works are subject to change due to weather conditions, operational constraints, or work progression.
