A 72-year-old Montreal North woman – missing since Oct. 24 – is now believed to have gone into the Rivière des Prairies, according to a message posted on social media shortly after 12 p.m. on Friday.
Montreal police (SPVM) tell CityNews that they are still treating this case as a missing person and that no body has been recovered.
The post, shared by pages dedicated to finding Léonne Aneus, expressed deep sadness over the latest development and thanked the community for its efforts to locate her.
SPVM had set up a command post Tuesday near the corner of Saint-Michel Blvd. and Monselet St. hoping to gather information from residents who may have seen Aneus or captured her on home surveillance cameras.
Residents were also asked to check sheds and other areas on their properties where she may have sought shelter.

In their latest message, those involved in the search are asking the public to avoid speculation and show discretion and compassion toward the senior’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.
