The Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) has a new president.
Montreal police (SPVM) Chief Fady Dagher was elected president of the association for a two-year term.
He was chosen by members on Tuesday at the CACP’s annual summit in Edmonton.
“With more than 30 years of service, Chief Dagher has built a reputation as an innovative and community-focused policing leader,” the CACP wrote on X. “From advancing inclusive policing practices to strengthening relationships with diverse communities, his leadership skills will continue to shape the future of policing in Canada as CACP President.”
Dagher replaces Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Commissioner Thomas Carrique as president.
The president of the CACP is expected to “promote innovative and inclusive policing leadership, support public safety priorities, and ensure that the perspectives of police leaders are represented in important national debates affecting communities across Canada,” according to a press release by the SPVM.
Dagher has been the head of the Montreal police since November 2022.
