Quebec man wins $1M lottery in double draw

A Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine man is a millionaire after winning the $1-million top prize in a Québec Max draw.

Gérard Babin claimed the jackpot from the July 24 draw after his Double Jeu Max ticket which allows simultaneous participation in Loto-Québec and Québec Max.

When he first checked the Loto-Québec app, Babin thought he had just won $500, only to realize later that he had also won the $1-million top prize through the Québec Max draw.

Babin woke his spouse up with the news who initially thought he had only won a free play before checking his phone revealing the big prize.

He says he kept the lottery ticket closely with him until he claimed the winnings: “I carried it everywhere with me: on the road, at the hotel, at the restaurant… even to bed!”

Babin says he plans to use his new fortune to spoil his son and grandchildren and to organize a memorable family trip.

The winning ticket was purchased at a Couche-Tard in Paspébiac. The retailer will receive a $10,000 commission for selling the winning ticket.
