Goaltender Jacob Fowler will make his third consecutive start in net for the Montreal Canadiens tonight against the St. Louis Blues.
This was confirmed by Habs head coach Martin St-Louis during the noon hour on Tuesday.
Fowler has been on a roll lately and was named the third star of the past week in the NHL on Monday.
Fowler posted a 2-0-0 record with a 1.00 goals-against average and a .964 save percentage last week, notably shining in the Habs’ 2-1 victory over the Winnipeg Jets in the Heritage Classic on Sunday night.
At 21 years and 335 days old, Fowler also became the youngest goaltender to start and win an NHL outdoor game, making 33 saves on 34 shots.
The American also stopped 20 of 21 shots in his team’s 4-1 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday night.
The rookie, who has won each of his last five starts since October 10 (1.55 GAA, .937 save percentage, one shutout), ranks among the league’s top goalies this season across all categories, including both rookies and veterans.
He stood out in particular in terms of goals-against average (fifth with 1.79), save percentage (fifth with .924), and wins (tied for eighth with five), in a total of six appearances (5-1-0 record).
In addition, St. Louis announced that defenseman Adam Engstrom will face the Blues in place of Arber Xhekaj.
Engstrom was held scoreless in his first five games this season with the Habs. He has one assist in 20 career games in the Bettman League.
The game is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis.
