A turquoise pumpkin for an allergy-friendly Halloween

As Halloween approaches, Allergies Québec is inviting the public to take part in the #MyTealPumpkin (#MaCitrouilleTurquoise) initiative, which helps the 100,000 children living with food allergies go trick-or-treating safely.
The concept is simple: place a turquoise-painted pumpkin in front of your door, or display a sign indicating that non-food treats are available for children with food allergies or other health-related dietary restrictions.
“Halloween is about much more than just collecting candy. It’s the joy of dressing up and sharing a magical moment with friends. No child should ever feel excluded because of food allergies. With #MyTealPumpkin, a small gesture can make a big difference,” says Dominique Seigneur, Director of Communications at Allergies Québec—who is also the mother of a teenager with multiple allergies.
To help make the holiday more inclusive, she encourages handing out items other than edible treats, such as stickers, temporary tattoos, bubbles, erasers, pencils, bouncy balls, or other small toys.
Allergies Québec even provides an interactive map, allowing you to quickly locate nearby families and businesses participating in this movement—which originated in the United States in 2014 as the “Teal Pumpkin Project.” The provincial organization joined the initiative ten years ago.
