Body of missing Montreal North senior found in Rivière des Prairies: SPVM

Police say they have found the body of a 72-year-old Montreal North woman who had been missing since last weekend in Rivière des Prairies.

In a press release Sunday, Montreal police (SPVM) said officers from the Water Patrol Unit found Leonne Aneus’ body around 10 a.m. in the river.

“Based on the information currently available, this does not appear to be a criminal incident,” SPVM said.

On Friday, reports had indicated that Aneus may have gone into the river on her own. However, police said at the time that they were still treating it a a missing person case and the search was ongoing.

Police had set up a command post last Tuesday hoping to gather information from residents who may have seen Aneus or may have footage of her on home surveillance cameras.

Residents were also asked to check sheds and other areas on their properties where she may have sought shelter.
