La Ronde fireworks going ahead Thursday as planned; no air quality concerns

Thursday’s international fireworks competition at La Ronde will go ahead as planned.
The competition’s opening was cancelled last week due to concerns over air quality stemming from forest fires in northern Quebec.
Public health made the recommendation to cancel the June 29 show as the city was under a smog warning – the first such cancellation for health reasons in 37 years.
The amusement park says that following discussions with public health officials, the air quality is forecasted as normal for Thursday.
Ukraine will be the first country to display its fireworks for the competition.
Officials say the consultation process with public health will resume in the days leading up to each of the upcoming events.
The fireworks competition runs every Thursday until Aug. 3, plus Sunday, July 30. A final fireworks display will take place Aug. 10 – a tribute to the band Metallica.
Jacques-Cartier Bridge will be closed on fireworks nights in both directions from 8 p.m. to midnight – except for emergency services.
The sidewalk and multipurpose path will be completely closed from 7:45 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
Pedestrians, strollers and people with reduced mobility can access the bridge. Bicycles are prohibited, as well as smoking.
