Man stabbed at Cabot Square in downtown Montreal

By The Canadian Press

A 52-year-old man is in hospital after being stabbed in Cabot Square overnight in downtown Montreal.

According to police (SPVM), the attack happened around 3 a.m. near Sainte-Catherine Street and Atwater Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found the man injured “in the upper body” – but he was still conscious.

He was transported to hospital and authorities said his life is not considered to be in danger.

“According to initial information, a conflict broke out in Cabot Square Park between the victim and possibly two suspects. It was during the conflict that the victim was injured with a bladed weapon and subsequently, the suspect(s) fled before police arrived,” explained SPVM spokesperson Caroline Chèvrefils.

A security perimeter had been set up to allow investigators to analyze the scene.

“Checks will be made on possible surveillance cameras located near the scene,” added Chèvrefils.

Police add that the victim is known to them.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is currently ongoing.
