Moved to Bell Centre due to encampment, McGill’s week of spring convocations begins

By News Staff

Spring convocation for McGill university students looked a little different this year.

The ceremonies were held at the Bell Centre this week – beginning Tuesday – instead of the lower field of the school’s downtown campus.

That’s because the pro-Palestinian encampment remains in place there.

Court documents made public during the university’s request for an injunction showed the cost of moving the grad ceremony was more than $700,000.

In an email to CityNews, McGill says the university is proceeding with its ceremonies to provide graduates with the opportunity they deserve to celebrate this festive occasion.

It was status quo at the encampment Tuesday. The atmosphere was quiet, with multiple Palestinian flags encircling the premises.
