PQ will present its ‘drastic’ immigration plan on Monday

By The Canadian Press

The Parti Québécois (PQ) will unveil its immigration plan on Monday.

PQ leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon said that the plan calls for a “drastic” and “substantial” reduction in all categories of new arrivals.

PQ MNA Pascal Bérubé made the announcement on Thursday morning at a press briefing at the National Assembly.

The PQ continues to criticize Premier François Legault, claiming that his immigration measures are too timid and that he is unable to make significant gains against the federal government.

Ottawa announced their immigrations plants on Thursday to reduce the number of new permanent residents that Canada will accept in 2025 and lowered their target from 500,000 to 395,000.

There are currently 600,000 temporary immigrants in Quebec.

In an interview with “La Presse,” the PQ leader stated that he wanted to reduce this number to around 250,000 to 300,000 people in one mandate.

He also said that he wanted a moratorium on the arrival of economic immigrants for four years.
