Lebanon Cinema Days Festival returns to Montreal

"I believe that the only thing that can connect cultures is art," says Lebanese actor, Badih Abou Chakra. Lebanon Cinema Days Festival returns to Montreal at the Rialto Theatre with shows running until Oct. 5.

The Lebanon Cinema Days Festival kicked off with a red carpet opening ceremony at Montreal’s historic Rialto Theatre and is promising a lineup of short and feature films that spotlight Lebanese talent and stories – running until Oct. 5.

The initiative is led by the Beirut film society, positioning cinema as a bridge between Lebanon, the Middle East, and the diaspora through the power of storytelling.

“As an actor, I believe that the only thing that can connect cultures is art,” said Badih Abou Chakra, Lebanese actor.

Lebanon Cinema Days’ mission is to transform the Lebanese immigrant journey into a cinematic celebration.

“I’m very happy to be here,” said Lara Rain, Canadian Lebanese singer. “It’s so nice to see all the beautiful Lebanese community all gathered here today to welcome the artists, the actors, the musicians and to celebrate cinema here, Lebanese cinema in another city.”

“I think this is more than an event,” said Michel Hourany, Lebanese actor. “It is a bridge between Lebanon and the diaspora. A bridge of culture, Lebanon’s spirit. It’s more than a place, so it’s a spirit.”

Tickets to the films premiering for the first time in Canada can still be purchased online. The Lebanon Cinema Days awards will be announced by a jury, honouring the voices shaping cinematic future.
