Montreal police (SPVM) are investigating a vehicle targeted by arson in the Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie borough on Tuesday evening.
At around 10:40 p.m., officers received several 911 calls regarding a sport utility vehicle (SUV) on fire that was parked on 9th Avenue, near Dandurand Street.
“When police officers arrived at the scene they located the burning vehicle,” said Caroline Chèvrefils, a SPVM media relations officer. “Shortly thereafter the Montreal fire department also arrived on the scene to extinguish the fire.”
The brunt vehicle is considered a total loss, the SPVM explained.
“Another SUV was parked nearby and sustained damage,” Chèvrefils added. “Some incendiary material was found on the scene.”
According to initial information that officers obtained by witnesses, more than one suspect would have been seen setting the fire to the vehicle then fleeing the scene before the arrival of police.
The investigation was transferred to the SPVM arson unit, and the SUV has been towed for forensic examination.
