A 41-year-old man who served time for the 2007 killing of a Dorval teenager has been re-arrested after months on the run from parole authorities.
James Gould was taken into police custody Tuesday night in front of an apartment building in Montreal’s Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough.
Police say Gould had been the subject of an arrest warrant, as well as a suspension and reincarceration order since August.
Gould had a firearm in his possession and attempted to resist arrest, says Montreal police (SPVM), who add that he was subdued by the SPVM’s tactical squad.
Gould appeared in Montreal court on Wednesday to face charges of unauthorized possession of a firearm and receiving stolen goods. He remains in custody and will be handed over to prison authorities. He has been reincarcerated under the terms of his arrest warrant.
Police also took a 35-year-old woman into custody at the scene. Police say she was found with a suitcase containing close to $950,000 in cash.
Gould has previously been granted parole after serving a sentence for the manslaughter of 18-year-old Karina Esquivel in Dorval in 2007.
Authorities report that he stopped checking in with his community correctional centre about three months ago, leading to the issuance of an arrest warrant for his return to custody.
The investigation into the 35-year-old woman arrested Tuesday night is ongoing.
